Main Types of Trailer Hitches


Today there are many different options available for trailer hitches in the market. Hitches come in many different sizes, styles and types. Selecting the right and appropriate hitch can be quite baffling. Hitches are divided into 3 main types.



Ball Type Hitches
These are the most commonly used hitches. This trailer hitch is welded to the trailer coupler and fitted to into the ball in the tow vehicle. The ball size must match the ball on the tow vehicle for perfect installation. They are available in different and stylish colors. These trailer hitches are available for pulling load capacity for 2500lbs-25,000lbs. These can be used for both light and heavy duty trailers.
Gooseneck Hitches

Gooseneck hitch attachments are in a shape of a long curve. It resembles to a goose neck, this is how it has got its name. These are attached to the trailer coupler. Gooseneck hitches are used in trailers that transport heavy duty trailers like, animal trailers, machinery & equipment, full car hauling trailers. They are available in a large variety of designs and styles. Gooseneck trailer hitches offer a smooth and safe ride.
Fifth Wheel Hitches

This hitch is fitted in between the flatbed of the trailer. The trailer is connected with the hitch with a big pin called the king pin. Fifth wheel hitches are the heaviest and strongest hitches compared to others. They are used to pull heavy duty trailers transport cattle, horses, and livestock & in pulling RVs. Fifth wheel hitches are more safe and stable. They are easy to pull and turn them easily.
Hitches are very important trailer accessories as it connects the trailer to the towing vehicle. Therefore, for safety measures it is important to select the right and appropriate trailer parts suiting your trailer.
